A man who allegedly bit a woman on the ear in Buncrana in the early hours of Monday morning has appeared in court.

Shane Fitzpatrick has been granted bail on strict conditions following the alleged incident on Main Street, Buncrana.

Fitzpatrick was brought to Letterkenny District Court having been taken into Garda custody.

The 31-year-old, whose address was given as Stretton Way, Hertfordshire, England, has been charged with assault causing harm.

Fitzpatrick is also charged with criminal damage to an internal wooden door of a property at Main Street, Buncrana.

An Gardai Siochana objected to bail with Sergeant Jim Collins telling the court that the incident was ‘quite volatile’. He said the woman had visible injuries to her neck, arm, face and ear.

Judge Vincent Deane said Fitzpatrick was entitled to the presumption of innocence.

Judge Deane Granted bail in Fitzpatrick’s own bond of €1000, including a €300 cash lodgement, on condition that Fitzpatrick commit no further offence; that he have no contact, either directly or indirectly, with the alleged injured party or any witnesses; that he be contactable to Gardai 24/7 via mobile phone; and that he sign on twice a week at Buncrana Garda Station.

The matter was adjourned to Buncrana District Court on May 23 for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
