A Drumkeen man was caught in possession of drugs after fleeing from the scene when he crashed his car into a bollard.

Garda arrived at Pearse Road in Letterkenny on October 21, 2021 and found a black Corsa abandoned with the hazard lights on.

Officers observed a male running up the road, but located Eoin O’Donnell a short time later.

O’Donnell, a 22-year-old of Stralongford, Drumkeen, appeared before Letterkenny District Court.

Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that O’Donnell crashed into a bollard and abandoned the car in the middle of the road.

When searched, €40 worth of cannabis was located on O’Donnell.

The accused was charged with dangerous driving and with the unlawful possession of drugs.

Solicitor Mr Kieran O’Gorman said his client, who has no previous convictions, was apologetic. O’Donnell’s mother was with him in court.

“He had difficulties at the time, but he has addressed them,” Mr O’Gorman said.

Judge Vincent Deane fined O’Donnell €350 on a reduced charge of careless driving and took into account the drugs charge.
