Three in court after group attacked in Letterkenny Town Park

Three people have been charged following an incident that saw three people seriously assaulted in the Bernard McGlinchey Town Park in Letterkenny.

Two of the trio also face a charge of allegedly producing a metal bar.

Mary Theresa Mongan (19), of Meadowbank Park and 21-year-old Milan Sidelka of Manorview Park appeared before the sitting of Letterkenny District Court in relation to the incident on April 2, 2023.

A third person, a juvenile who cannot be named for legal reasons due to his age, was accompanied by his mother to court.

Detective Garda Niall Brady gave evidence of the arrest, charge and caution of each of the defendants.

Mongan is charged with assaulting a man and causing him harm.

Sildelka is charged with assaulting two men and causing them harm. Sidelka is also charged with having in the course of a fight produced an article capable of inflicting serious injury, namely a metal bar.

The juvenile boy is charged with assaulting a man, causing him harm and also with producing a metal bar.

Detective Garda Brady told the court that the defendants made no reply when cautioned.

Sergeant Jim Collins informed the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed that each of the matters be dealt with by way of summary disposal. There were no Garda objections to bail.

Judge Vincent Deane granted bail with the condition that the accused persons to not contact, either directly or indirectly, any witnesses in the cases.

In the case of the juvenile, a curfew from 10pm-7am was imposed by Judge Vincent Deane.

Legal aid was granted to solicitor Mr Frank Murphy, who represented the three accused.

The three were remanded on bail in their own bond of €100 nil cash to appear again at the May 15 sitting of Letterkenny District Court.
