U17 Hurling Celtic Challenge
Donegal went down to Mayo in a hardfought clash at the Centre of Excellence in Convoy this afternoon.
Donegal 1-08 (11) Mayo 1-12 (15)
Mayo, however, had to work hard at the finish to get their second victory after Donegal powered back into the game in the second half.
The home side took the lead after Brendan Gaffey sent a pile driver to the top corner of the Mayo net to leave the scoreline midway 1-08 to 0-10.
The visitors, however, never panicked and Fionn and David Delaney were superb in the closing stages for Mayo.
They hit 1-04, all from play, in the final ten minutes. The goal arrived after 22m when Fionn Delaney latched onto a breaking ball and rifled it to the back of the Donegal net.
The final moments were tense as Donegal fought back, but Mayo held on for their second consecutive victory.
