Shock and sadness have spread through the motorsport community today following the sudden death of Craig Breen.
The Waterford driver has been killed in a testing accident ahead of next week’s Croatia Rally.
The 33-year-old was driving a Hyundai i20 N Rally1 which reportedly went off the road and collided with a pole. His co-driver James Fulton was unharmed.
“Hyundai Motorsport sends its sincerest condolences to Craig’s family, friends and his many fans,” a statement read.
The crash is being investigated by the Hyundai Motorsport team and the Croatian authorities, with the police confirming a fatal accident on that stretch of road at 12.40pm local time.
Breen competed in the Donegal International Rally on three occasions, most recently in 2019. The 2019 event came to a tragic end on the final day, when three-time winner Manus Kelly lost his life while competing.
