A councillor has been informed it is not currently possible to connect the footpath from Woodland National School to Letterkenny.
Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh had put a motion forward on the matter at today’s meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.
He asked that Donegal County Council apply for Active Travel funding to take the footpath towards the school, from the end of the town boundary.
In response Mr David McElwee, Roads Engineer, however, explained the National Transport Authority (NTA) Active Travel funding is limited to schemes within the speed Limits.
“The footpath to Woodland School does not meet this criteria. An application for funding to construct a section of this footpath was submitted as part of the Community Recognition fund, but was unsuccessful,” he said.
He added that, if other possible sources of funding become available, they will be considered.
In response, Cllr Kavanagh said he hoped the town boundary can be extended as far as the school.
