A councillor has called on Donegal County Council to return to the building of ‘SI’ houses.
Specific Instance (SI) houses are homes built by local authorities on land provided by people on the housing list.
Councillor Ciaran Brogan raised the issue at today’s meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.
“We need a workshop on SI housing. That model worked before, here in Donegal, for many families and there is a huge challenge facing us now in the area of housing,” said.
Cllr Brogan added that, if it wasn’t for the work of charities like St Vincent de Paul, ‘I don’t know where we would be.’
“There is a real need for a good discussion around housing. There is funding out there but we need all our ducks in a row, and that is why we need this workshop.”
A member of the council’s housing executive informed him they would look into holding a meeting to discuss the issue.
