The Clean Coasts Roadshow rolled into Bundoran during the week.
The community there came together for a number of talks and a film screening of the magical ‘My Octopus Teacher’ in Bundoran Community Centre. The evening also included a talk from Donegal-based photographer Darragh Gorman (main pic) and from Olivia Jones, Clean Coats Coordinator for the North West region.
Ms Jones spoke about Clean Coasts and how people can get involved further in protecting the coasts, through the many initiatives and campaigns they offer.
This was followed by a talk from Darragh Gorman, the winner of the ‘Love Your Coasts’ Image of the Year. He spoke about his photography, wowing the crowd with every image and stories about the length it takes to create an amazing shot.
The talks were then followed by a film screening of ‘My Octopus Teacher’. This award winning must-see film documents a filmmaker who forges an unusual friendship with an octopus along the South African coast during the lockdown.
The Clean Coasts Roadshow is a series of free talks and workshops for coastal communities which take place all around the coast of Ireland between February and May each year. It aims to bring together all those with an interest in protecting their local beaches, seas and marine life and environment.
The Roadshow events are a mix of talks and workshops covering topics such as biodiversity, dune systems, marine litter, wildlife, sustainable developments, work by local groups and organisations, and more. Usually, they are an occasion to discuss how community groups can build capacity with volunteers, attract new members and share the workload amongst the group, as well as look at various funding streams groups can avail of, including the Clean Coasts grant scheme.
