The Donegal All County League is up and running with matches played across the various divisions on Saturday and Sunday.
In the Brian McCormick Sports Division One Gaoth Dobhair were the big winners on Saturday. They travelled to The Bridge in Dunfanaghy and comfortably beat St. Michael’s by 2-16 to 0-7.
Malin made the long trek to play Killybegs on Saturday and will be disappointed to have left empty handed after being involved in a very close game.
In the end Killybegs had two points to spare, winning by 0-10 to 1-5 with Ryan Cunningham hitting four points and Conor Cunningham scoring 0-3 for the winners.
Christy McLaughlin got the Malin goal.
At Páirc Taobhoige, Cloughaneely, under new manager Denis Doohan, held Glenfin to a 0-9 to 0-9 draw. Jason Morrow top-scored for the home side with three points and John Fitzgerald also scored three points for the visitors.
On Sunday, Realt na Mara Bundoran saw off the challenge of Na Dunaibh with a 2-13 to 1-11 win.
The visitors had led at half-time at Gaelic Park by 1-6 to 1-3, but Realt na Mara produced a fine second half display to win.
Last year’s league winners Kilcar journeyed to Ballyshannon to play Aodh Ruadh where the home side won a close encounter 1-9 to 0-9.
Aodh Ruadh led at half-time 0-4 to 0-2 and a late Jack Gallagher goal proved crucial as they won with a goal to spare.
Naomh Conaill produced the goods in the second half as they won away to MacCumhaills.
The sides were level in Ballybofey at 0-4 apiece at the break.
But Naomh Conaill kept their opponents to just two points in a second half during which they were well on top, winning in the end by 1-13 to 0-6.
Division Two
The match between Glenswilly and Ardara, due to be played on Saturday, was postponed.
However, there was still plenty of action in the Marley Coaches Division Two.
Termon opened their campaign with an impressive 5-11 to 1-10 win over Gaeil Fhánada at the Burn Road.
Daire McDaid scored 2-3 for Termon in a game that was in the melting pot until Termon pulled away during the early stages of the second half.
Mark McAteer scored 0-6 for the visitors.
Red Hughs came from seven points down to beat Four Masters by 2-8 to 1-9 in a highly entertaining game.
Meanwhile Buncrana, thanks to a Darach O’Connor goal and three points from Sean McLaughlin, were too strong for Naomh Muire at The Scarvey, winning by 1-9 to 1-5.
On Sunday, Naomh Columba were much too strong for an understrength Letterkenny Gaels in Glencolmcille.
Aaron Doherty, Darragh Cunningham and Stephen Callaghan scored the goals in a 3-17 to 1-7 win.
It was a lost closer at Hibernian Park where Burt hosted Milford, the visitors winning by just a point, 1-5 to 0-7.
Also on Sunday, Dungloe were impressive winners at home to Naomh Brid, winning by 2-12 to 0-8.
Dungloe took control of this game in the second half after leading with only three to spare at half-time, 0-7 to 0-4.
Division Three
In the Yes Chef Division Three, there were two games on Saturday evening.
Naomh Ultan made the journey to Crampsey Park and came away with a narrow 2-9 to 1-8 win over Urris.
Moville, under new manager Pat McLaughlin, had it a lot easier in Letterkenny where they beat St Eunan’s 5-21 to 0-2.
Ciaran Diver scored 1-9 for Moville and Michael Barr scored 1-4.
The opening game on Sunday was in Castlefin where Robert Emmets hosted Naomh Pádraig Uisce Chaoin.
The sides were level at half time, 1-4 to 0-7 but Naomh Pádraig kicked on after half time and eventually won by 2-9 to 1-5.
Second half goals from Stephen Griffin and Declan Duignan saw St. Naul’s ease to victory in Lifford over Naomh Padraig where it was 2-11 to 0-4.
And there was a big opening day win for Cardonagh over Naomh Colmcille, the hosts scoring 3-18 to Naomh Colmcille’s 1-5.
