Torrential rainfall in the Glenswilly area has once again led to flash-flooding on the main Glenties to Letterkenny road this evening.
However, the pipes that were installed after last year’s flooding incidents have ensured that the flooding is not as bad as before.
Motorists are urged to approach the area with caution and while the road is passable, care is needed.
The stretch of road that has been impacted by this evening’s flooding is at the bottom of Kilmasney Road – around a quarter of a mile on the Glenties side of Glenswilly National School.
Local councillor Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly said the situation would have been much worse if proper action hadn’t been taken after the last incident of flooding in the area.

“Thankfully the pipes that were put in have done their job this evening because they have really been tested,” he said.
“It’s just one of those things, we had freak, torrential rain this evening and the water has washed down from the fields.
“The flooding is pretty bad, but only for the pipes that are now installed, it would have been a lot worse.”
Cllr Kelly said he has informed Donegal County Council of the problem and council staff will soon be on the scene to try and ease the flooding problems.
“Anyone that might want to acquire sandbags can give me a call and we can get that arranged,” he added.
