Work on the long-awaited Primary healthcare Centre for Dunfanaghy will begin this summer, it has been confirmed.
The McCallion Group from Buncrana have been appointed as the company who will construct the centre with commencement notices imminent.
The HSE Estates have confirmed the move with Deputy Joe McHugh.
It is expected that there will have to be minor amendments to the original plan.
Deputy McHugh said he appreciated there had been some frustrations locally about the commencement of the project but was delighted works will now begin.
“This is really important news for Dunfanaghy, Creeslough and communities and while there has been a lot of frustration with the process I’m confident that things will move in the right direction now,” he said.
Local GP, Dr Paul Stewart said he was also delighted with the confirmation.
“Dr Rory and Dr Paul Stewart welcome this positive news, both look forward to the works starting and thanked the community for their ongoing campaign to get this project started,” he said.
