Gardai have confirmed that members of the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau have launched an investigation in the Donegal area.
No further details were given on the investigation which is understood to be connected to the fishing industry.
It follows reports that bribes were paid to individuals in return for fishing rights.
It is believed that one business in the Donegal area was searched and documentation seized.
A Garda spokesperson told Donegal Daily “An Garda Síochána led by the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau are currently involved in ongoing enquiries in the Donegal area.
“No further information is available at this time.”
