A hugely popular Donegal garda hangs up his hat today after almost 40 years in the force.
Sergeant Joe Dorrian (main pic on right) served An Garda Síochána with distinction for 38 years, the last 16 of which were spent in Castlefin.
An ‘old school’ officer, he knew his flock well and, in particular, kept a lookout for the older and more vulnerable members of the community.
Indeed, an appreciative east Donegal community has rightly honoured their local hard working Garda Sergeant.
Yesterday, staff and pupils at St Safan’s National School in Doneyloop put on a special show for the retiring Sheriff and presented him with a specially made cake!

“We wanted to show our appreciation to Joe for his great service to our area and let him know that he will be very sorely missed,” a spokesperson for the school said.
“On behalf of our whole school community – best of luck Joe and enjoy every minute of your retirement.”
Last month, Sgt Dorrian was delighted to be presented with a specially commissioned collage featuring the various landmarks of Castlefin.
The beautiful work, by local artist Martin McCormick, was presented at the ‘About The Town’ community event in St Mary’s Hall.
