Donegal ATU hosted its ninth annual charity 5K run and walk on Tuesday night.
The event attracted almost 200 people, with all registration fees going to the North West Simon Community. The charity works to prevent and resolve homelessness throughout Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo.
NW Simon Community Development Officer, Collette Ferguson, said they were delighted to be the nominated charity for this year’s annual 5k.
“All proceeds will go directly to help those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness,” she explained.
“We are extremely grateful for the awareness and support to help sustain the work and services provided.”
Helen Kennedy, ATU Donegal Sport Centre Manager, said the 5K is more than a race or walk.
“It is an event that generates great community spirit and the generosity shown each year for charitable causes display this. It is growing each year and ATU Donegal extends thanks to all participants, organisers, volunteers and helpers who not only supported the NW Simon Community with their generosity, but helped create a nice community event.”
ATU Donegal extends its thanks to Brendan and Teresa McDaid, Donegal Athletics, for their usual professional assistance. Thanks also to O’Hehirs Catering, ATU Donegal, for sponsoring the refreshments, and to Michelle Morrison in particular. Also, huge gratitude to the many volunteers on the evening who helped make the event happen.
This year saw a new route, starting and ending at ATU Donegal on the Port Road with refreshments and craic afterwards in ATU Sport Centre.
The tenth ATU Donegal 5K is scheduled to be held next Spring, on April 3 rd, 2024.
