Buncrana singer-songwriter George Houston is about to embark on his first tour of Ireland, The Undesired Tour.
Launching this Thursday, March 30th at the Regional Cultural Centre Letterkenny, the tour will span nationwide with music from Houston’s two studio albums Cold Toast and Undesired.
The 21-year-old alt-pop artist started his music career in September 2020 with his debut single Boo Fucking Hoo.
Since then, with two albums in his discography, he has developed a distinctive sound with brooding vocals, airy harmonies and candid lyrics.
Evoking the likes of Bon Iver and Lana Del Rey, with a voice likened to Johnny Cash and Jim Morrison, Houston has a tone and range beyond his years that gives a timeless feeling to his music that cements his vintage alternative pop genre.
Speaking to Donegal Daily ahead of The Undesired Tour, he said: “I can’t wait now to finally get the show on the road!
“It’s a whole new experience live with a band for me personally, and hopefully for the audience too. Every time I’ve played acoustic in the past I’ve been dreaming of that big band sound so it’s so rewarding to play alongside such talented musicians.”
At Thursday’s launch party, Houston will be joined on stage by drummer Steamy McCay (TRAMP), keys player Peadar Coll (Shindig House Band), bassist Malcolm Boyd (Happy Out) and Guitar and vocalist Rachel Craig. Special Guests Romie and Shauna Mcdaid will also be supporting on the night commencing at 8pm.
With such a display of alternative folk talent performing, The Undesired Tour is not a show to be missed by lovers of quality songwriting.
Since a young age the artist has been listening to songwriting greats like Leonard Cohen, Kate Bush and David Bowie, artists that have always looked at their songs like storytelling and poetry.
The Narrative of George’s work being his priority, he uses an array of singing styles and instrumentation to best convey the emotion and aesthetic of each song. Praised for his live performances, the artist has supported Irish legends Hothouse Flowers and Ciaran Lavery as well as attending Stendhal Festival with world class acts Sister Sledge and Villagers headlining.
George has been played on radio and playlists nationwide and has gained a strong following with over 60k streams on Spotify.
The Undesired Tour is the next venture of Houston’s career where the artist will be putting on his debut national tour of Ireland with dates in the RCC, Sandinos, Blackbox Belfast and Whelan’s from the 30th of March to the 8th of April. Tickets available via Linktree: https://linktr.ee/georgehouston
