Raphoe staged a wonderful comeback to win today’s Linden Cup Final, defeating CIYMS 4-3 in a thrilling decider.
Played at Cookstown Hockey club, this final entertained the big crowd right from the off.
It was the Belfast club who enjoyed the better of things early on and when Jarad Allen made it 2-0 just before half-time, it was looking bleak for Raphoe.
But the Donegal side dug deep and managed to get back on level terms at 2-2. They scored two more goals to go 4-2 up – two of their goals coming from Simon Goodie with the others from Tom Eaton and Matthew Lecky.
And while CIYMS pulled a goal back to set up a tense finish, Raphoe held out to seal a memorable victory.
The Linden Cup Final was part of a double-header on what was a big day for Ulster hockey.
In the first game of the day, Omagh Ladies took on Mossley Ladies in the Senior Cup Final and this turned out to be another exciting contest which ended 2-2. Omagh won on penalties to clinch the title.
