The jury in the trial of Richard Burke for the murder of Jasmine McMonagle has found him not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
The unanimous verdict, RTE News is reporting, was returned a short time ago at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Monaghan.
The 32-year-old, with an address in Killygordon but originally from Donegal town, had pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter.
Ms McMonagle – a 28-year-old mother-of-two – was strangled and beaten in her home in the early hours of 4 January 2019.
