A special meeting of Donegal GAA’s County Committee has been called to discuss the ongoing controversy surrounding the Donegal GAA Academy.
All clubs have received notification of the meeting which will take place at the Donegal GAA Training Centre in Convoy on Thursday at 8.30pm.
It’s understood the only item on the agenda is the academy.
The academy has dominated debate since the recent departure of Karl Lacey as Head of Academy Development.
A large number of coaches on the academy also stood down in support of Lacey.
The matter has grabbed national media attention with several commentators having their say over the past number of weeks.
Only last weekend, it was the topic of discussion on RTÉ’s League Sunday with former Tyrone player Sean Cavanagh referring to claims that Jim McGuinness and Michael Murphy were also going to work with Lacey on the academy.
“It’s baffling for me, as a Tyrone man, much as I love seeing Donegal suffer, the level of expertise and high performance they have in Karl Lacey, Jim McGuinness, Michael Murphy… they’re generational-type winners and to let people like that disappear from a county fold all within a year, is shambolic really,” he said.
