The Donegal Association in New York has always played a major part in the city’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and this year once again, the association was able to welcome a number of guests from Donegal for the celebrations.
Blessed with fine weather, the events got underway last Wednesday with a welcome function for the Tánaiste and Minister for Defence, Micheál Martin at the Irish Consulate.
On Thursday, there was a welcome dinner hosted by the Donegal Association for the Donegal County Council representatives, led by Cathaoirleach Cllr Liam Blaney.
On Friday, the city played host to a huge St. Patrick’s Day parade and there was a special after-party later that evening.
Stranorlar native Tracy McNulty is the President of the Donegal Association of New York and she had the pleasure of leading the county in the parade.
“It was a proud moment indeed, and I was grateful to be in good company under our Donegal banner,” Tracy said.
Among those from Donegal who attended the celebrations in New York were Cathaoirleach Cllr Liam Blaney, council Chief Executive John McLaughlin, Leas-Cathaoirleach Cllr Míchael Naughton and Caitlin Finn, 2022 Mary From Dungloe.
