Anne Scott receives her award from the President of the IRFU John Robinson
There were plenty of Donegal rugby fans among the big crowd for Ireland’s historic Grand Slam victory over England at the Aviva Stadium.
But it was an even extra special day for one Donegal woman who was also in attendance.
Inishowen Rugby Club President Anne Scott was among the guests at a special pre-match lunch at the Aviva where she picked up an IRFU Spirit of Rugby Award.
It was a tremendous honour both for Anne and for Ireland’s most northerly rugby club – Inishowen Rugby Club.
The Spirit of Rugby Awards are presented across the four provinces, honouring rugby volunteers and the values they uphold within the sport.
A volunteer from each province was selected for special recognition by their branch at a special ceremony at the Aviva on Saturday.
Anne Scott (Ulster) and Patricia Parfrey (Leinster) were presented with their awards ahead of the England game while John Carr (Connacht) and Jerry Hurley (Munster) received their awards at the Ireland v France game in February.
These are certainly busy times for Anne and her colleagues at Inishowen Rugby Club where preparations are continuing ahead of a forthcoming junior interprovincial game between Ulster and Munster.
The match will take place on May 6th and will be part of the club’s 50th anniversary celebrations, coinciding with the official opening of the new club dressing rooms.
