The new multi-million euro St Mary’s NS in Stranorlar is to be officially opened at the end of the month.
Minister for Education, Norma Foley, will perform the honours on Friday March 31 at 1:30pm.
Boyle Construction Ltd won the tender for the project which, following two years of construction, was opened last June.
The new 700-pupil school (pictured above) consists of 24 classrooms, alongside a P.E Hall and a suite of resource rooms.
The building, of a five acre site opposite the Finn Valley Centre, has been designed with a very high energy performance.
Scoil Mhuire, Stranorlar, first opened on 17th February 1958 on a site behind the local church. It replaced the old school which had been in existence since 1888.
Growing numbers led to a four classroom extension being added in the late 1960s. The General Purposes room was added in 1974. Further increases in numbers necessitated the provision of nine additional pre-fabs which were used by some mainstream classes and also by smaller groups for Learning or Language Support.
