Donegal County Council is set to look at short-term repairs on the N13 road into Letterkenny to fix winter damage.
Recent snow and ice have broken up the road surface from Dooballagh to the Dry Arch Roundabout, Cllr Donal Coyle told the Letterkenny-Milford MD this week.
Cllr Coyle told the Letterkenny roads section that the uneven surface is creating a potential danger for motorists.
“This is the main artery from Sligo to Letterkenny and from Sligo to Derry. Since the snow we had some time ago the road has deteriorated to a terrible extent,” Cllr Coyle said.
He added that the roundabout at the Dry Arch is also in a seriously bad condition, commenting: “I know there is work going on, but it’s actually dangerous the way the road is rutted there as well.”
The Dual Carriageway as far as Manorcunningham has also been damaged, Cllr Coyle said.
He told the council that the roads need more than patching, but an overhaul.
In response, the council has agreed that the roads mentioned are noted as areas of concern. The Letterkenny roads section is set to examine localised repairs as soon as possible and liaise with Transport Infrastructure Ireland regarding possible additional funding to carry out larger repairs.
