Ardara man, Stephen McCahill, had the honour of leading the Donegal Association of New York in yesterday’s St Patrick’s Day Parade in the Big Apple.
The former Donegal Person of the Year followed in the footsteps of fellow Ardara man, the late Councillor Charley Bennett, who performed the same role 22 years ago.
Meanwhile, The town of Dunkineely will be buzzing this afternoon when it hosts its first ever St Patrick’s Parade!
Join the community in the town centre, on what is traditionally known as Sheelagh’s Day, at 3pm for the start of the celebrations.
There will be floats from local businesses, schools and groups being joined by cars, bikes and probably a tractor or two.
Entertainment will be supplied by the local Killaghtee Band, O’Donnell’s School of Music, children from local schools and the Ukraine and… there is rumour of a dragon!
All children attending the parade are in with a chance to win this fantastic hamper – the prize is for best costume, so pull out the wigs, face paints and green gear!
“Extra points for homemade costumes, please don’t buy for the event,” a spokesperson for the organisers said.
“We would particularly like to see some Sheelaghs. Little is known about how she would have dressed so be creative! There will, of course, be a separate prize for the best Sheelagh.”
Food and drink will be available from Samara’s Coffee and Napoli Express Pizza and the local pubs will be open too.
If you want to join the parade, remember that all floats, clubs and businesses are welcome.
