One driver was clocked doing 147 kmh (91mph) during today’s well publicised garda road safety ‘day of action’.
The speeding motorist was nabbed on the dual carriageway outside Letterkenny this morning and, as a result, was issued with fixed charge penalty notice.
Today’s garda operation will consist of high visibility rolling checkpoints and patrols from 9am to 9pm.
This will be led by Roads Policing Units based at Donegal town, Letterkenny and Buncrana Garda Stations as well as Carrick On Shannon and Sligo.
The operation will focus on the four key lifesaver offences of:
- Driving under the influence
- Speed
- Non wearing of Seat Belts
- Mobile Phone use
An Garda Síochána urges all road users to stay safe this Bank Holiday weekend.
“The overall objective of today’s operation is to reduce the number of fatal and serious injury collisions and to keep people safe as they take to the roads this weekend,” a garda spokesperson said.
