They may have enjoyed a healthy rivalry down through the years, but Swilly Rovers and Letterkenny Rovers joined together to honour the memory of Kieran McGrath ahead of their Donegal League meeting in Ramelton today.
And in a lovely gesture, Swilly Rovers captain Connor Gormley presented a special pennant to Letterkenny captain Ronan Curran prior to kick off.
Both teams and the big crowd in attendance also observed a minute’s silence in honour of Kieran, and Bonagee United clubman, Liam Haughey.
All matches at junior and intermediate level in Donegal were cancelled last weekend as a mark of respect to both men whose deaths have left a huge void among the football family in the county.
Clubs in all divisions in the Donegal League and Inishowen League honoured both men with moments of silence prior matches this weekend.
Donegal Town FC posted a photograph on their social media page showing home players and Keadue Rovers players observing a minute’s silence prior to their Saturday League meeting at the Hospital Field.
A minute’s silence is observed by players from Donegal Town and Keadue Rovers prior to their game on Saturday
The picture was accompanied by the following tribute: “The loss of Kieran leaves a huge void in Donegal football and afternoons like today you realise the tremendous effort he put into the fantastic platform that was Soccer Donegal.
