A man has appeared in court after being caught stealing a hat from a Letterkenny shop.
Mhamed Chabbi entered TK Maxx on September 1, 2022 at 5.20pm.
Chabbi was observed lifting a woolly Nike hat, rolling it into a ball and putting it into his coat pocket.
Chabbi, a 25-year-old with an address at Meadowbank Park in Letterkenny, subsequently left the store without paying.
The property, worth €17.99, was returned and was resalable. Chabbi was apologetic and co-operative when spoken to by Gardai, his solicitor, Mr Jason Laverty, told the court.
At Letterkenny District Court this week, Judge Éiteáin Cunningham asked Chabbi to make a €100 donation to St Vincent de Paul in order to avoid a conviction.
Judge Cunningham imposed a default order of a conviction and a €200 fine.
