Banshees of Inisherin scoops four BAFTAs in big night for the Irish

The Banshees of Inisherin had a big night at the BAFTAs, taking home four top prizes.

The dark Irish comedy, which had 10 nominations, won outstanding British film, best original screenplay, as well as best supporting actor for Barry Keoghan and best supporting actress for Kerry Condon.

Irish actors Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin), Daryl McCormack (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande) and Paul Mescal (Aftersun) missed out in the Lead Actor category to Austin Butler (Elvis).

Northern Ireland film An Irish Goodbye won best British short at the awards in London last night.

An Irish Goodbye tells a story of two estranged brothers who come together after their mother’s untimely death. The comedy was filmed on location in Derry, Templepatrick and Saintfield.

Irish-language film An Cailín Ciúin, however, missed out in both its categories, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film Not in the English Language.
