South west Donegal Councillor, Niamh Kennedy, has welcomed the €2 million allocation for the problematic Fintra Bridge.
Located on the Kilcar side of Killybegs, the narrow structure is on a vital access route for locals and tourists in South West Donegal.
It is proposed that a new bridge be constructed along with the realignment of approximately 1.4km of the R263 road.
A new 1.9km pedestrian and cycle route between Killybegs and Fintra Beach is also part of the project.
“I am absolutely delighted that the allocation for Fintra bridge and road alignment has come through at €2m for the next phase of this project,” Cllr Kennedy said.
“I especially want to thank Donegal County Council for their work on this application. We have worked very hard on this and I am delighted that this brings us a stage further, though land purchase and works to commence on the Fintra side first.”
