Raphoe hoped to carry on from last week’s 5-0 win away to Antrim with another win at home against CIYMS that would see them top of the Ulster Intermediate League.
Raphoe 2
CIYMS 1
The Donegal side started fast with an early penalty corner superbly executed with a reverse shot from Matthew Lecky.
Jonny Long then doubled Raphoe’s lead with a brilliant finish, firing a cracking reverse shot into the top corner.
The second quarter was a more equal affair. Two chances from each team, MacBeth and Lecky having chances saved for Raphoe, while David Moore was alert in the Raphoe goal to deny a CIYMS forward.
Just before halftime, Alan Meehan produced a fantastic goal-line clearance to keep the score at 2-0.
A poor third quarter followed from the home side, David Moore being called upon again on several occasions to keep the score at 2-0 after poor possession from Raphoe throughout the quarter.
Raphoe’s only chance came from a Simon Goudie drag flick which was well saved.
Another poor quarter followed, Raphoe this time conceding a goal.
However, Richard Tinney’s side did manage to hang on but won’t be pleased with the second half performance.
Now sitting pretty at the top of the table, Raphoe play third place Portrush next Saturday in what should be a real thriller.
