Tremors from the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria have been recorded in Donegal.
As of Tuesday night, the death toll was over 8,000 following the quake that rocked the Turkey-Syria border on Monday.
Signals from the earthquake (main pic) were recorded at St Columba’s College in Stranorlar.
Physics teacher there, Brendan O’Donoghue, was behind the school joining the international Seismology in Schools network.
“Here is the helicorder plot from the seismometer at St Columba’s College, Stranorlar, Co. Donegal. It shows the 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude events that struck Turkey and Syria yesterday,” he said yesterday.
A seismometer in the school runs 24/7 and showed the 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude events this week.
