Five Donegal athletes took gold at the National Masters Indoor Championships at the TUS International arena in Athlone.
Milford AC’s Martin Kerr took gold in the M70 1500m, finishing in 12:11.22
Finn Valley’s Catriona Devine won the W45 1500m, finishing in 5:00.24, ahead of Ennis Track AC’s Ann Marie Connellan.
Catriona’s sister Sinead McConnell also took gold for Finn Valley in the W50 3000m Walk with a time of 16:15.50, nine seconds ahead of Maggie Helen O’Connor of St. Joseph’s AC.
In the W60 1500m race, Kay Byrne was 2nd, finishing in 5:54.49.
In the M60 category Letterkenny AC’s Barry Mackey finished 3rd in the 1500m in 5:17.72, and he also finished in the bronze medal position in the 3000m, finishing in 12:09.00.
Danny Sharkey won bronze for Letterkenny as he finished in 20:43.51 in the M60 3000m Walk.
Finn Valley’s Garvan Boyce took 6th in the M50 1500m, coming home in 5:30.63.
Milford AC’s Anthony Doherty was 5th in the M50 3000m in a time of 10:15.90
In the field events, Rosses’ AC’s Aidan Gillespie won the M50 High Jump, clearing 1.55m, and was second in the M50 Long Jump, leaping out to 5.09m.
Damian Crawford of Lifford-Strabane AC took gold in the M50 Shot Put, throwing out to 11.58m while he was second in the M50 weight for distance, throwing out to 7.41m.
Bosco Reid of Finn Valley AC threw a best of 11.72m on his way to winning the M60 Shot Put.
Patrick Galvin took silver in the M45 High Jump, clearing 1.55m, and was agains second in the M45 Long Jump, with a best of 4.76m.
Inishowen AC’s Martin Mooney took third in the M40, with a best of 1.45m, and again was third in the M40 Triple Jump, leaping out to 8.81m.
Kevin Duffy of Rosses AC took third in the M35 Shot Put, with a best throw of 8.85m
