Donegal County Councillors have given the go-ahead for the construction of new public toilets at Letterkenny Retail Park.
Two public toilets and a ‘changing places’ unit will be installed between New Look and Dealz.
The block will contain one regular sized toilet, one wheelchair-accessible toilet and the town’s first ‘Changing Places’ facility with an assistive hoist and adult-sized changing bench for use by people with complex disability needs.
The council is planning to relocate a bicycle stand to the northern end of the car park to make way for the new facilities. Two disabled parking bays will also be placed in front of the toilet block.
The project is co-funded by the Water & Environment Directorate, together with funding from the Disability Participation and Awareness Fund and Minor Tourism Grant funding.
Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh has been campaigning for the facility on behalf of wheelchair users in Letterkenny for the past two years.
