Ireland player Shane Duffy has kindly donated a limited edition jersey to an auction for people affected by the Creeslough tragedy.
The Derry footballer, whose late father Brian was from Letterkenny, wore a rare blue jersey for an international friendly marking the 100th anniversary of the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) in 2021.
On the day, the Boys in Blue beat Qatar 4-0, with Duffy captaining the team and scoring the fourth goal with a header. He dedicated that goal to his father Brian and his grandmother Martha, who both sadly passed the previous year.
The one-of-a-kind jersey worn by Duffy will go up for auction alongside other exciting lots at the ‘Trucking for Creeslough’ run on Saturday 4th February.
Duffy is a cousin of St Johnston man Colin Kilpatrick, who is organising the run. The event will see a convoy of around 200 lorries on a run from Ballybofey to Creeslough before returning to the Silver Tassie in Letterkenny for an evening of entertainment and fundraising.
Colin was one of the first responders on the scene of the devastating explosion at the Applegreen service station on October 7th last year. Wanting to support the victims in the aftermath, Colin has teamed up with his employer, Bernard Long, Bernard’s son Patrick and his colleague Dean Mc Laughlin to organise the run.
The event will launch with the lorry run from Bernard Long & Sons yard in Ballybofey at 1pm or drivers can set off from Applegreen in Letterkenny at 1.30pm. The route will go through Kilmacrennan, Termon and Creeslough and families are invited to come out and show their support in their local towns.
Truckers are coming from as far as Clare, Monaghan, Tyrone, Belfast and Sligo for the day, Colin says.
Pre-registration is not necessary, simply turn up on the day.
The convoy will travel back to the Silver Tassie Hotel for refreshments before an auction and dance. Doors open at 7pm, tickets €15.
Tony Morning will be at the helm for the auction, where there will be something for everyone, including A P Mc Coy’s whip, a signed Donegal jersey, new tyres, hotel breaks, Garry Jennings rally experience, tools and even sheep. Please note that no online bids will be taken during the auction. Phone bids are welcome, so please ensure you are represented in the Silver Tassie Hotel on the evening of the 4th February, whether in-person or over the phone.
The evening will round off with dancing to the David Craig Band and DJ Tubbsy, as well as more special guests to be announced. All welcome.
