Planners have given the green light this week for Donegal’s first crematorium.
Local vet, Ciaran Marley, has been granted permission for the development on his land at Cloaghanmore in Glenfin.
The proposed development will include the construction of a steel framed shed to accommodate a pet incinerator for a pet crematorium within an existing farm enclosure.
One of the conditions of the grant of planning is that the opening hours of the premises shall be confined to between 8:30am to 8pm, Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 6pm on Saturdays and from 2pm to 6pm on Sundays.
Mr Marley, who is part of the Mulroy Veterinary practice, is expected to have the service in operation by the end of the year.
Currently, the nearest crematorium for Donegal pet owners is in the North.
