Paul Eccles and Kevin McDermott were crowned the champions of the 2022 Owen Mc Daid (Roe) Taxi & Mini-Bus Hire Winter League.
Paul Eccles (19) and Kevin McDermott (21) beat Leo Sheehy (21) and Cormac Doherty (22) after an epic battle in the final on Sunday morning.
Paul and Kevin were two up after two holes but Cormac and Leo fought back to go one up after 10 holes, however Paul and Kevin pulled the match back to all square at the 11th hole with a great birdie by Kevin.
Leo and Cormac then played some great golf on the 12th and 13th holes which saw them win both holes, to go two up at a very vital stage in the match.
Paul and Kevin then had to dig deep and deep they dug, with Kevin winning the next two holes, the 14th and 15th, to bring the match back to all square with just 3 holes to play. After a tidy half at the 16th hole, Paul and Kevin took the initiative on the 17th and after a great par by Paul which won the hole, him and Kevin were one up with just one to play.
The evergreen stalwart pairing of Paul and Kevin closed out the match superbly on the last with two great shots securing the title by two.
Open Stableford Sweep
Remarkably the snow cleared in time for golf to be played on Saturday morning so the 18 hole Open Stableford Sweep went ahead. There was a strong wind on Saturday morning so it was no surprise to see the winning score come from the Sunday players. The inform John Bradley (27) took the first prize at the weekend with a good score of 40 pts and if John continues in this form he will soon see his handicap come tumbling down. The full results of the Open Stableford Sweep are as follows; 1st John Bradley (27) 40 pts, 2nd Andy Gormley (28) 39 pts, 3rd Mark Timlin (16) 38 pts b.o.t. and Best Day (Sat) Brian Bradley (10) 35 pts, Visitor Mark Cocks (10) 31 pts.
