Gerry Gallagher, the uncle of missing Donegal schoolgirl Mary Boyle, has died.
Mr Gallagher died on Wednesday after a short illness.
His Funeral mass will be held in his native Cashelard on Saturday 21st January at 11am.
Gerry Gallagher was the last person to report seeing Mary prior to her disappearance on March 18 1977.
Mary was just six when she disappeared while out walking near her uncle Gerry home in Cashelard outside Ballyshannon. Mary had followed Gerry when he was delivering a ladder back to a neighbour’s house which was 400 yards away on a hillside.
The last reported sighting of Mary was by her uncle that afternoon as she turned back towards her grandparents home just over halfway on the journey to the neighbour’s house. Gerry continued on to the neighbour’s home and returned the ladder.
The return trek to her grandparents’ farmhouse should have taken no more than five minutes.
Mary‘s mother Ann believed Mary did make it to a nearby road on the day she vanished.
