The Donegal Civil Defence put their new off-road vehicle into action this week during the cold spell.
Their Severe Weather Off Road (SWORD) Driver unit was activated by the HSE Home Care Support Team.
They were called in as certain areas were inaccessible by car due to the heavy snow falls of recent days.
“Busy week supporting our communities this week,” a Civil Defence spokesperson said.
“We had volunteers supporting the IBTS with their blood clinics in Jacksons Hotel, Ballybofey, and our Severe Weather Off Road Driver unit providing transport assistance to the HSE Home Care Support Workers in the Finn Valley, Bridgend and Ballybofey areas.”
The Civil Defence supports the frontline emergency services in dealing with severe weather, flooding, major accidents, fire fighting and searching for missing persons.
