It’s been another successful weekend for Donegal athletes at the National Indoor Championships in Dublin today.
Sean McGinley of Finn Valley AC landed the U23 1,500m title with a strong run of 3:52.78, ahead of second placed Colin Smith of Mullingar Harriers and Patrick Noonan of Craughwell AC.
Fellow Finn Valley athlete Hannah Murray took silver in the Junior Women’s 400m final, finishing in 56.53s, just ahead of Lucy McGlynn of Tír Chonaill AC finishing third in 56.64s. Niamh Murray of Bray Runners AC won the race.
In the Junior Men’s 400m, Fintan Dewhirst took bronze, finishing strongly in 49.69, behind David Mannion of South Galway AC and Joe Doody of Cabinteely AC.
In the Junior Women 60m hurdles, Ashleigh McArdle of Lifford-Strabane AC took bronze, finishing in 9.30s, behind Okwu Backari of Leevale AC and Arabella Adekoya of St. Laurence O’Toole AC.
McArdle was just ahead of fellow clubmate Ella Costello in 5th (9.41s) and Tír Chonaill’s Niamh Moohan in 4th (9.38s)
Oisin Kelly of Cranford AC finished an agonising 4th in the Junior Men’s 800m, finishing 0.26 of a second off the medal positions.
In the field events, Finn O’Neill of Lifford-Strabane AC took silver in the Junior Men Pole Vault, clearing 3.70m, while Tír Chonaill’s Jack Murphy was second in the U23 event, clearing 3.10m.
Adrienne Gallen of Lifford-Strabane was a bronze medallist in the Junior Women Shot Put, throwing out to 10.10m.
Tír Chonaill won medals in both Junior Weight for Distance events, with Alex Anderson winning the Men’s 35lbs throwing out to 7.91, while Ava Anderson took bronze in the Women’s 28lbs with a best of 5.29m
