ATU Donegal were well beaten in their Sigerson Cup opener by Dublin City University.
ATU Donegal 1-7 DCU 4-15
The away side, which featured multiple Donegal men, had Galway man Rob Finnerty hit 2-3, while Lorcan O’Dell got 1-4 and 1-2 from Cork man Conor Corbett had them well on their way.
Keelan McGroddy found the back of the net early on but that was the only score for the home side in the opening 10 minutes, while Finnerty and Corbett both struck in the early stages of this game that had fears of being called off due to the state of the pitch.
Liam Gaughan, Jack McSharry and Conor O’Donnell added to the scoreline for ATU but DCU were running away with it from early on, going into the break 2-9 to 1-3 ahead.
Termon’s Jamie Grant started for the Dublin outfit, with St. Eunan’s man Shane O’Donnell and Glenfin’s Ross Marley both coming on in the second half to help see out the game.
ATU take on Ulster University next week in a bid to stay in the competition after they were defeated by Queen’s University 1-12 to 1-11.
Naomh Padraig’s Caolan McColgan kicked a point for UUJ, while St. Eunan’s man Eoin McGeehin is also in the panel.
