The death has been announced of human rights activist Peter Pringle, father of Thomas Pringle TD.
Peter Pringle of Costello, Connemara, Co. Galway and formerly from Killybegs, died peacefully on New Year’s Eve.
Peter Pringle was one of the last people to be sentenced to death in Ireland when he was wrongly convicted of killing two gardaí in a shoot-out in Ballaghaderreen, Co Roscommon in 1980. When his sentence was changed to forty years without remission he set out to prove his innocence. Fifteen years later, he became a free man. Peter told his story in his own words in a book, entitled About Time: Surviving Ireland’s Death Row.
Mr Pringle passed peacefully on Saturday at his residence in Galway.
Predeceased by his daughter Lulu and his sister Pauline. Sadly missed by his wife Sunny, daughter Anna, sons Thomas and John, his brother Pat, in-laws Eric and Christina, twelve grandchildren, nephew Roschard, niece Rosana, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Reposing at Naughtons Funeral Parlour (H91AF40), Monday 2nd January 2023, from 5pm-7pm. Cremation will follow on Tuesday 3rd January 2023 after 2pm ceremony in Shannon Crematorium.
