A west Donegal councillor is demanding Irish Water and the Donegal County Council tell the public the truth as the Leitir area still faces water outages, while the Dungloe area is now suffering outages.
Irish Water are currently investigating reports of a supply disruption to An Clochán Liath and surrounding areas in Co. Donegal with more information to follow.
Irish Water confirmed yesterday that, following operational difficulties at the treatment plant and a noticeable increase in water usage, the restrictions will be in place from 8pm each night until 7am the following morning.
And Councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig brandished it ‘not good enough’ when the water outage occurred, which has been a recurring theme in the area in recent months. He further added today that those in control haven’t the ability to run the plan.
Councillor Mac Giolla Easbuig said: “There are areas that are still without water.
“The treatment plan at Leitir Mhic an Bhaird is now under the control of a private company. I have been told that they do not have the ability to run the plan as required.
“For example, I am told that our very committed and able local staff aren’t allowed on site, but when this private company isn’t able to do the work our staff are called back in to fix the problems.
“We had 3 months of a boil water notice and now 3 different times for the last number of weeks people have been left without water. There are still families in the area who are without water.
“Our local water staff are hard working and very able so why are they not allowed to do their job? I believe Donegal County Council knows there is a serious problem as I believe Irish Water does as well.
“Why are we not being told the truth?
“This is our water and our treatment plan and outsourcing and privatising is never in our interest.
“Why aren’t they going out with tankers and water bottles and have them left at different areas?”
One constituent of the Dungloe area also said: “This is absolutely ridiculous.
“Here we are surrounded by water and nobody has any water at the foot of New Year’s Eve when people are home from different parts of the country and people are freezing because they can’t put on fires.”
