The rescheduled ‘Light the Night’ charity car and tractor will take place in Killybegs tomorrow night.
The organisers took the decision to postpone the original event on December 17 as a mark of respect following the sudden passing of popular local man, Billy Broderick.
The Mid West Donegal Vintage Club, in association with the Melly family of Killybegs, are hosting the run in memory of the late Conal Melly.
Mr Melly lived in Killybegs but was so proud of his hometown of Ardara, so the run will travel from Killybegs at 6pm to reach Ardara by 7.30pm.
Conal Melly was an ambulance driver for 29 years. He was well-known and respected by everyone who knew him.
He also was a mechanic with a love for vintage cars. Conal passed away on 15th May 2021 surrounded by his loving wife Mary, and daughters Dareena and Arlene.
Conal’s family and friends are delighted to be hosting this run in memory of a great man and for two great charities.
All proceeds will go towards the Creeslough Community Support Fund and to the Renal Unit at Letterkenny University Hospital.
Conal’s daughter Arlene attends dialysis at LUH and wanted to give something back in appreciation of the amazing staff.
The family are also keeping the people of Creeslough in their thoughts following the 7th October tragedy and they hope that the money raised will help them during this difficult time.
So, get the batteries and inverters wired up for tomorrow and join the Mid West Donegal Vintage Club for a post-Christmas run.
Cars, tractors, lorries and vans are all welcome to take part.
Registration is from 5pm at the Atlantic Dawn Cold Store in Killybegs. Refreshments after at Doherty’s Bar Ardara.
