It has been confirmed that the popular ‘Black Square’ cafe in Letterkenny is to close on New Year’s Eve.
The announcement has been met with surprise as it was only taken over two months ago by Michael and Mary Black (pictured).
Previously it had been known as Wholegreen which was set up a number of years ago by local woman, Anna Good.
Taking to Instagram this morning, Mr Black said the decision was made for ‘purely’ personal reasons.
He added that the business will be sold as a going concern and is actively seeking a new owner.

“It’s with huge disappointment that I have to announce that I won’t be opening the cafe after the holidays and we will close officially on the 31st December,” he wrote.
“This is purely for personal reasons and is no reflection on the business or the amazing staff that have helped me over the last couple of months. I have to accept that this is just not my time and rebuild for the year ahead.”
He said the business has had a huge amount of time, effort and money put in over the last couple of months.
As a result, it is ready made for someone to step in with ‘zero’ work to do.
“In the short time we were open, we received fantastic support from customers, suppliers and local businesses and I must thank everyone who called in,” he added.
“I have no doubt that this can continue and there is a place and need for this business on the Church Lane. If anyone is interested in taking up this challenge and taking over a successful business please contact me directly either through the social media channels or call me.”
