The Twin Towns community is in shock after a popular local resident died after being struck by a car in the UK.
The woman, who is in her 70s and has not yet been named, was pronounced dead shortly after the incident which occurred on Thursday outside an Aldi store in Birmingham.
It is understood the woman was born and reared in Kilcar before moving to the UK.
She returned to Ireland and had been living in Ballybofey for a number of years before recently relocating back to the UK.
“We were called to a collision involving a car and pedestrian in Stratford Road, Hall Green, at around midday today,” a West Midlands Police spokesman told The Daily Mail.
“Sadly, a woman in her 70s was confirmed dead at the scene. Our enquiries are ongoing.”
Two paramedics, a critical care paramedic, two ambulances, a first responder and a trauma doctor were sent to the scene.
West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two paramedic officers, two ambulances, a community first responder, a MERIT trauma doctor and a critical care paramedic to the scene after reports came in.
A spokesperson for the service said when ambulance crews arrived they found the woman in a ‘critical condition following a collision with a car’.
They said: “Sadly, nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed deceased by ambulance staff at the scene a short time later.”
They said the male driver of the car was assessed and discharged at the scene by ambulance staff.
