A helicopter crewman and paramedic from Donegal is leading Ireland’s first review of Community and Emergency First Responders scope of practice.
John McShane, who is from St. Johnston and lives in Letterkenny, was recently appointed Chair of the new Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council Responder Subcommittee.
The first meeting took place this week and was hailed as a success.
In attendance were representatives from the National Ambulance Service, Irish Heart Foundation, An Garda Siochana, Mountain Rescue Ireland, Department of Defence, Fire Service, National training organisations, and Patient advocacy groups to name but a few
Mr McShane said: “The meeting had a total of 19 participants, all with a background or interest in pre hospital care.
“I am extremely proud and excited to lead the committee in the development of our Community and Emergency First Responders nationally by reviewing and where possible, enhancing Responders scope of practice so they can better serve the communities in which they live.
“The meeting was a fantastic success, with a lot of new ideas and processes being aired. I cannot wait for our next meeting in the new year.”
