It was a successful day at Rosapenna Hotel & Golf Resort for Donegal athletes, with Letterkenny AC winning Senior Womens silver at the All-Ireland Cross Country Championships.
Anne Marie McGlynn was 4th in the Senior Women’s race, just six seconds behind last year’s winner Michelle Finn, as Letterkenny agonisingly took silver.
Nakita Burke (13th), Noeleen Scanlan (21st) and Natasha Adams made up the Letterkenny team who scored 65, just a point behind Dublin City Harriers AC.
The four women also won bronze for Donegal.
Cranford AC’s Caolan McFadden took gold in the U16 Boys with a brilliant win ahead of Francis Donoghue of South Sligo AC.
In the Junior Women’s race, Finn Valley took silver, with Eimear McCarroll’s 11th place finish leading the way as they will compete in Europe again, this time in Spain.
Amy Greene (19th), Sally McMenamin (43rd) and Nuala Bose (53rd) were the other scorers on the Finn Valley team who finished sixth in Portugal earlier this year at the European Champion Clubs Cup Cross Country.
McCarroll was 7th in the U18 results, while Elsa Moore was 8th as they won provincial gold for Ulster. Moore was 12th overall in the Junior Women race.
Sean McGinley of Finn Valley came sixth in the Junior Men’s race in 18:28, while Oisin Toye was 10th, 20 seconds behind his club mate.
The Finn Valley Under-14 Girls took club silver, with Andrea Reid (22nd), Holly McNulty (33rd), Nia Byrne (44th) and Niamh McGlinchey (51st) the four scorers.
Their tally of 150 points had them well clear of Tuam AC in 3rd who scored 199, while Ennis Track AC won well scoring 83.
Anna Russell was 20th in the Girls U16s and was the last scorer on the Ulster team who took gold for the provincial category.
In the U14 Boys, Odhran Rodgers of Rosses AC was 13th and Letterkenny’s Daragh Naughton was 16th, while Darci Clarke of Finn Valley was 14th in the Girls U12s,
Evan Ward of Rosses AC was 26th in the U12s race as Donegal finished 4th with Cranford’s Oisin McBride 31st and Oisin Browne and Peter Gallagher of Finn Valley 32nd and 47th, Olympian YAC’s Dylan Curley 52nd, and Eli Duffy of Rosses 54th.
