A talented Lifford boy is looking forward to the biggest moment of his music career so far after being selected to sing on the Late Late Toy Show.
Kris Friel, aged 11, will perform on the special Christmas programme next Friday night.
Kris had a hard time keeping the appearance a secret until this week, and he’s over the moon to tell his fans they’ll be seeing him on the small screen very soon.
Kris is a pupil of Holy Cross College Strabane and former pupil of St Columba’s Clady.
Supported by his mum Veronica, Kris is already busy with rehearsals for the big night.
Veronica said: “I sent an application in August not thinking any more about it and we recieved a call on the 27th of September asking Kris to come up to the RTE studios the following Monday 3rd October. He performed two pieces for his audition and even though I wasn’t allowed to watch he was very pleased with his performance. The RTE staff were amazing and made him feel like a huge star. I’ve never seen him being so confident in himself; it was if he knew he was meant to be there.
“So it was back to school the next day as normal for Kris doing his music and sports which he loves. It was a very anxious 2 weeks waiting to see if there was going to be a call. Then on the 20th October I received the call there was so much excitement I couldn’t wait to tell him. I told Kris after school and he was on cloud 9 cause he also had been picked for his school football team that day.”
Kris made his first TV appearance on the Maura and Daithi Today Show on May 2020 age 8 and he also appeared in Donnacha’s Two Talented with his mum Veronica in March 2021.
Kris is represented by Rising Talent Agency Belfast and also attends Much Ado Stage School and will be performing in two musicals in the new year.
