Walkers have discovered what is suspected to be an old Lough Swilly Railway goods wagon in a forest.
Joe and Francis McCafferty made the discovery in recent days.
Members of the Donegal Railway Heritage Centre posted pictures of the find on their Facebook page.
They say the find could be one of the few such wagons in existence.
A spokesperson for the centre said “A unique find. We were contacted by friends of our Railway museum, Joe & Francis McCafferty, about an unusual discovery that they made.
“Whilst out for a walk recently, they spotted in the undergrowth of a forest the remains of what may be an original Swilly goods wagon, which might possibly be the only one still in existence; a rare find, but this needs more investigation.
“The wagon, in spite of its age; is in good condition, probably due to the protection that the forest offers as well as hidden from public view.
“If you come across anything on your walks, let us know as they need to be documented.”
