One of Donegal’s most popular visitor attractions has just been informed it is to receive a prestigious international accreditation.
Lifford Old Courthouse will become one of the first seven recipients of the Social Enterprise Mark Award in Ireland.
The mark defines what it means to be a genuine social enterprise and will be presented to the winners at an event in Dublin next week.
“The process has been ongoing for two years, with lots of hard work, so we’re absolutely delighted to see it come to fruition,” a spokesperson for the courthouse said.
The award is an international accreditation, which acts as an independent, externally assessed guarantee that a business is operating as a social enterprise.
Social Enterprises are businesses that work primarily to improve the lives of people and that operate to meet a social need. All profits generated are reinvested, rather than distributed among shareholders, as in the case of most businesses.
“Social enterprises sustain jobs and communities all over Ireland and we’re so proud of all the work the staff here at Lifford Old Courthouse do as a social enterprise,” the spokesperson added.
The courthouse offers live tours, escape rooms, contains a restaurant and is home to intimate live concerts.
