Liam McElhinney, chairperson of St Michael’s GAA club, says the community will rally together in hope following the devastating service station tragedy.
Mr McElhinney said the entire town is in shock after the explosion at the Applegreen station on Friday afternoon.
He said: “Something like this has never happened before, you see it on television programmes but when it comes to close to your door there is nothing you can say.”
He added that it will take weeks and possibly years to recover from the tragedy.
“We can only rally together, and things hopefully will get better but it is going to take a long time to get out of this tragedy,” he said.
St Michael’s club plays a central role in many aspects of life in the village, Liam said, adding: “It’s a very dark day for the club and the community.”
